Finnish Karate Federation – The Unifying Force of Finnish Karate, Taido, and Ju-Jutsu
Finnish Karate Federation is a multi-sport federation known for the quality of its activities, strong team spirit, and sporting success. The foundation of the federation’s activities is based on the ethical values of sports as well as the principles of fair play and sportsmanship.
Founded in 1969, the Finnish Karate Federation (Suomen Karateliitto ry) serves as the national umbrella organization for Karate, Hokutoryu Ju-Jutsu, and Taido member clubs. The activities of the Karate Federation are divided into committees, which, within their areas of responsibility, plan and implement their work in accordance with the federation’s strategy, budget, and action plan.
The purpose of the Karate Federation is to promote and develop karate and other similar martial arts in Finland and to act as the national central organization for these martial arts associations in areas such as competition, fitness, youth, and other martial arts-related activities.
The Finnish Karate Federation holds representation in global governing bodies of its respective martial arts. In Finland, the federation is an eligible national sports federation for government funding and collaborates with organizations such as the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Finnish Olympic Committee, and various city sports departments.
Federation’s Disciplines
Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art and one of the most popular forms of exercise in the world. Modern karate is not only a method of self-defense but also an exciting sport, making it an inspiring activity for the whole family.
In Taido, traditional karate punches and kicks are combined with spinning and twisting movements, acrobatic techniques, and changes in the body’s axis. Thanks to its three-dimensional nature, Taido is a visually striking martial art.
Hokutoryu Ju-Jutsu is a Finnish style of the Japanese martial art jujutsu. Its basic techniques include strikes, kicks, throws, joint locks and chokes. In addition to self-defense skills, Hokutoryu offers practitioners a great and versatile fitness activity.
